About this event
Join the SFPE Chesapeake Chapter at the University of Maryland for the February Lunch & Learn to discuss Computational Fire Modeling of Jet Fuel Spill Fires in Aircraft Hangars with Haavard Boehmer of Summit Fire Consulting. The in-person meeting will be held at the Fire Risk Alliance Conference Room in the FPE Department.
Aircraft hangars present a distinctive fire protection challenge due to the presence of densely stored fuel-laden aircraft, potential fuel spills, the need to protect high-value assets, and to ensure operational continuity. This study employed Fire Dynamics Simulation (FDS) modeling to evaluate fire propagation in aircraft hangars with a focus on fuel sills and effects of drainage trenches. The objective is to assess whether this can provide sufficient fire containment in the absence of foam-based suppression systems. Downstream trench fire effects, thermal conditions of exposed structural members, and fire propagation to adjacent aircraft were evaluated.
Attendance will include 1 Professional Development Hour (PDH).
